Engineering Manager, AI & App Experience

About the roleChime is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of the teams building Jade, our AI-powered financial assistant, within the AI & App Experience (AAX) organization. AAX is building the next generation of the Chime member experience, and Jade sits at the center of it: helping millions of members manage their spending, stay on top of subscriptions, and reach their financial goals through conversation that's natural, reliable, and trustworthy.You'll lead and grow a team of engineers who design, build, and ship member-facing AI capabilities, while staying close enough to the technology to guide hard architectural and product decisions. This is an AI-first team, and we're looking for a leader who builds with AI themselves and knows how to foster that practice across a team: setting the bar for how LLM-powered features get shipped safely at scale, and shaping how the team works at the frontier of what AI tooling makes possible.The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $199,000.00 and up to $275,000.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.In this role, you can expect toBuild, lead, and hire a high-caliber team of software engineers building Jade, while staying hands-on enough to guide technical directionEnsure technical decisions support our bar for quality, reliability, and safety, and map to team, organization, and company-level prioritiesSet team objectives in alignment with business goals, establish a sense of urgency and direction, and set clear expectations with the team and individualsFoster an AI-native engineering culture: champion AI-assisted development, set the quality gates that keep AI-generated output production-ready, and help the team turn one-off AI workflows into systems the whole team reusesGuide the team in shipping LLM-powered capabilities, from agent experiences and evals to the guardrails and observability that keep Jade reliable at the scale of millions of membersWork closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk to launch precise, member-first solutionsCoach and grow engineers around project execution, skill development, and career progressionEncourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement, where the team takes smart risksEnsure the team maintains strong on-call, monitoring, and incident-response practices for the systems it ownsContribute to overall engineering initiatives as a member of Chime's engineering leadership communityTo thrive in this role, you haveExperience as a software engineer, with depth in relevant tech (e.g., Python, Ruby, React Native, distributed systems, AWS services, and service-oriented architectures) and a deep empathy toward engineering happiness2+ years of people management experience, including coaching engineers on project execution, skill development, and career progressionAI-native fluency: you build with LLMs and AI tooling yourself, and you actively foster that practice across your team rather than treating it as someone else's jobFamiliarity with the challenges of shipping LLM-powered products (agents, evals, prompt strategies, or guardrails), or a strong drive to come up to speed quicklyExperience ensuring technical decisions support quality, performance, scalability, reliability, and securityInterest in pushing the technology, people, and organization envelope to find new ways to deliver for our membersA fascination with how to make teams and people thrive, and the ability to motivate a team through delivery on aggressive schedules and goalsEnjoyment in learning and diving into the deepest levels of how things work#LI-Onsite #LI-AA1A little about usAt Chime, we believe that everyone can achieve financial progress.
