Certified Surgical Technician - Full Time

Overview This job is located at Pavonia Surgery Center which is part of Prism Vision Group. The surgical technician will assist the surgeon during all operative and invasive procedures, ensuring the operating room is adequately prepared and monitoring par levels of all surgical equipment and supplies. Pay range: $22 - $46/hr. Responsibilities Supervisory Relationships: Reports to Director of Nursing Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Provide patients with explanation and verbal reassurance as necessary. Adapt procedures to meet the individual needs of the patient within reason and by delegation of the surgeon. Prepare the operating room in a timely and efficient manner with all instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for each procedure. Demonstrate competence and care in specimen handling. Assist in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for the surgical procedure. Accurately complete surgical counts and follow facility protocol if a discrepancy is found; report all discrepancies to the DON. Carry out aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure. Maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self. Check all equipment pre‑operatively to ensure functionality. Prepare the room within a reasonable time frame to ensure timely starts. Maintain an orderly and sterile back table for efficiency and follow physician preference for setup. Anticipate needs of physician and patient during the intraoperative phase. Clean and prepare room between procedures and after the last case of the day. Damp dust the operating room prior to the start of any procedures. Restock supplies and equipment. Maintain responsibility for the care of surgical instruments and adhere to guidelines on transport from OR to decontamination room. Understand procedures for sterilization and verbalize how to validate sterility. Know responsibilities as they pertain to the reprocessing stages. Acquire, maintain, and utilize all manufacturer instructions for each instrument/item. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the center. Perform all aspects of reprocessing in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to all policies. Maintain knowledge of operating all applicable equipment. Perform required quality control through routine testing, cleaning, and monitoring to assure all equipment and instruments function properly. Inspect all instruments/equipment and packaging for cleanliness, defects, or malfunctions. Assist in storing all sterilized items. Transport instrumentation to and from sterile storage area when needed. Ensure proper preventative maintenance is performed at required intervals. Interact with maintenance personnel when necessary to ensure timely service and reduce downtime or impact on patient care. Verbalize, understand, and utilize appropriate PPE and surgical attire based on work location. Pick all supplies for the day’s cases in advance of the date of service to ensure availability. Accept linen deliveries and assist in stocking when requested. Maintain accurate tray sheets and inventory sheets. Knowledge of Privacy Practices & Patient Bill of Rights. Maintain knowledge of Infection Control & OSHA standards of practice. Knowledge of center’s policies & procedures. Other duties as assigned, including inventory/expiration validation/stocking. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited surgical technician program. Current certification as a surgical technician. Must be detail oriented and well organized. Working Conditions Environment: This position is in an ambulatory surgery center. Physical demands: This position requires extensive mobility, walking, and standing. Most of the day’s work involves pushing, pulling, and lifting patients or equipment. Potential exposure to patients with communicable diseases and/or blood‑borne pathogens.
