Manheim Township is a diverse and active community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Manheim Township Police Department provides professional law enforcement services to Manheim Township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Officers serve a community that includes residential neighborhoods, major commercial corridors, schools, parks, businesses, healthcare facilities, and heavily traveled roadways. Beyond patrol duties, members of the Department may have opportunities to participate in specialized assignments, K9, training, investigations, community outreach, and other areas of law enforcement as their careers progress. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and perform their duties with professionalism, integrity, and accountability. This is a full-time law enforcement position involving patrol, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, emergency response, community policing, and other duties associated with protecting life and property and maintaining public safety.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities· Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service· Conducting proactive patrol and crime prevention activities· Enforcing Pennsylvania criminal and traffic laws· Investigating criminal offenses, traffic crashes, and suspicious activity· Making arrests and taking individuals into custody when appropriate· Preparing police reports, criminal complaints, citations, and other official documentation· Collecting, preserving, and documenting evidence· Interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, and other involved persons· Testifying in court and other legal proceedings· Responding to incidents involving persons in crisis· Conducting traffic enforcement and assisting with traffic control· Working with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations· Performing other law enforcement duties as assigned Officers must be capable of working independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team in circumstances that may be stressful, rapidly changing, physically demanding, or dangerous.  QualificationsApplicants must meet all requirements established for appointment as a Police Officer with theManheim Township Police Department and applicable requirements under Pennsylvania law. Applicants must:· Be at least 21 years of age by the time of appointment· Possess a high school diploma or equivalent· Possess a valid driver's license· Be legally eligible to work in the United States· Be capable of meeting the physical, medical, psychological, and other requirements associated with police service· Successfully complete all phases of the Department's selection process· Meet the requirements for certification as a municipal police officer in Pennsylvania Prior law enforcement experience is not required. Applicants who are not currently Act 120 certified may be considered in accordance with theDepartment's hiring requirements. Desired Characteristics and QualitiesSuccessful candidates should demonstrate:· Integrity and good judgment· Personal responsibility and accountability· Strong written and verbal communication skills· The ability to remain composed under pressure· The ability to make sound decisions with limited information· Initiative and a strong work ethic· The ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds· The ability to accept instruction, criticism, and supervision· The physical and mental ability to perform the duties of a police officer· A commitment to professional law enforcement and public service DisclaimerThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
