Connect to what matters.The OpportunityOur IS Operational Technology, Growth and Divestitures organization is looking to add a Real Time Systems (RTS) Capability Strategist based in Calgary, AB, Houston, TX, or Charleston, WV. This role reports to the Manager of Real Time Systems and PI.Operational Technology is at the heart of how the organization safely and reliably operates critical infrastructure. As OT environments continue to evolve—through modernization, integration, data, AI, and growth initiatives—the ability to connect business outcomes, capability improvements and technology investments is more important than ever.The RTS Capability Strategist supports the planning and evolution of Real Time Systems capabilities by working with business stakeholders, the Portfolio Architect, the RTS Manager, technical leads, vendors and delivery teams to understand needs, identify opportunities and maintain capability roadmaps aligned with business priorities. This is a business-facing individual contributor role focused on the Plan function.If you are passionate about Operational Technology and excited by the future ahead, this role offers meaningful influence and visibility in shaping that future.What you’ll doMaintain and evolve multi-year RTS capability roadmaps, including Measurement, PI, AVEVA CONNECT, CR LINC and related platformsEngage business stakeholders to understand operational challenges, emerging needs, desired outcomes and opportunities for capability improvementTranslate business needs into clear capability requirements, use cases, outcome statements and planning inputsCo-develop capability strategies and roadmaps with the Portfolio Architect, incorporating business priorities, architecture direction, lifecycle requirements, dependencies, risk, and technical constraintsMaintain visibility into enhancement requests, future demand, product health, lifecycle risks, technical debt and modernization opportunitiesDevelop evidence-based recommendations on capability investments, prioritization, sequencing, and optimizationSupport business case development by defining the problem, expected outcomes, options, benefits, costs, risks and dependenciesFacilitate roadmap, planning, governance, and investment discussions across business, architecture, delivery, and operations stakeholdersContribute subject matter expertise to governance, portfolio planning and investment review activitiesPartner with delivery and operational teams to clarify capability outcomes and ensure successful implementation, adoption, transition to support, and sustainable operation of capabilitiesChampion awareness, adoption and effective utilization of RTS capabilities across the organizationPartner with business stakeholders to define success measures and monitor adoption and capability effectiveness. Business stakeholders remain accountable for realizing the associated operational and business benefitsAssess vendor roadmaps, industry trends, and emerging technologies for applicability to RTS capabilitiesMaintain capability documentation, roadmap decisions, assumptions, dependencies and lessons learnedEscalate material risks, priority conflicts, and investment decisions requiring management or governance actionMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience6+ years of experience in Operational Technology, Information Technology, industrial systems, business analysis, product or capability planning, or a related fieldPreferred QualificationsExperience in energy, pipelines, utilities or other critical infrastructure sectorsFamiliarity with AVEVA PI System, measurement systems, or comparable real-time technologiesExperience supporting product management, capability management, business relationship management or portfolio planning practicesExperience working with vendors and managed service providersExperience supporting Real Time Systems and Operational Technology environments, including SCADA, historian, measurement, control center or related capabilities, with an understanding of operational, reliability, cybersecurity, resilience and lifecycle considerationsExperience developing technology roadmaps, business cases, capability assessments and lifecycle plans, including demand management, prioritization and technology improvement initiativesExperience working across business stakeholders, architects, technical teams, delivery teams and operational support functionsAbility to translate business needs into capability requirements, use cases, expected outcomes and planning recommendationsAbility to analyze options, dependencies, risks, costs and benefits and present practical recommendationsAbility to use data and stakeholder input to assess adoption, capability effectiveness and improvement opportunitiesStrong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and relationship-building skillsClear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technology considerations to business and technical audiencesCollaborative and able to influence without direct authorityOrganized, analytical and able to manage multiple priorities and dependenciesOutcome oriented, with sound judgment and a practical approach to problem solvingCurious and committed to continuous learning in a changing operational technology environmentThis position requires candidates to:Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)Occasional travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or trainingOccasional participation outside normal business hours may be required to support critical planning, releases or operational eventsTo remain competitive, support our high-performance culture and allow for more flexibility in the way we work, we offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for our eligible office-based workforce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. #LI-HybridAbout our businessWe are a leader in North American energy infrastructure, spanning Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
