Job Summary To administer moderate sedation to patients during procedures, as prescribed by the attending physician, in a safe and professional manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide constant evaluation, observation and treatment of patients during procedure. Review the patient’s chart. Maintain accurate documentation. Assist in the safe transportation and positioning of patients, if needed. Assist with the counts and recording of narcotics at the beginning and end of the day. Administer IV moderate sedation, including fentanyl and versed, per policy and physician’s orders. Assist with emergencies in the operating room, as per policy. Respect the confidentiality of patient, center and physician related information. Maintain confidentiality of patient records, using complete discretion when discussing patient information. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies Perform other tasks as assigned by charge nurse, administrator or providers. Prepare the anesthesia workstation for the day. Restock medications and supplies in the anesthesia cart as needed. Check equipment for proper functioning. Communicate important information to patients, patient’s family and staff. Work closely with physicians to optimize documentation and explain pre‑procedure/discharge instructions, and medication orders throughout the procedure. Document and maintain appropriate workflow in patient’s record. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Must have current GA nursing license, BLS, ACLS and other required training. Knowledge of equipment, instrumentation and supplies required to perform specific responsibilities. Demonstrated competency administering moderate sedation. One year administering moderate sedation, preferred. Communication Skills Strong customer service skills. Good command of the English language, both verbal and written. Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients and others. Ability to read, document and access patient information in eClinical. Reasoning Ability Ability to work independently with detail and accuracy. Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables. Required to wear (approximately 5lb) lead aprons during procedures.
