Principal Web Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Web Engineer to lead the evolution of a large-scale, enterprise web platform supporting multiple consumer-facing digital experiences. This role will serve as the technical authority for modern web architecture, front-end engineering, performance optimization, and digital user experience initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technical leader with deep expertise in React, Next.js, and modern web technologies who thrives in fast‑paced environments and enjoys collaborating with product, design, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver highly scalable, high‑performing web solutions. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Serve as the subject matter expert for web application architecture and development. Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise‑grade web platforms. Evaluate technical feasibility of proposed features and user experiences. Partner with product and engineering leadership to define technical roadmaps and delivery strategies. Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices across teams. Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve platform capabilities. Build reusable component libraries and contribute to design system initiatives. Implement responsive, accessible, and SEO‑optimized user experiences. Collaborate with backend teams to integrate REST and GraphQL services. Support experimentation, feature flagging, and A/B testing initiatives. Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive root‑cause resolution. Contribute to cloud‑native architecture discussions and long‑term platform strategy. Quality & Operations Champion web performance, security, accessibility, and maintainability standards. Participate in CI/CD processes and release management activities. Ensure solutions meet reliability, scalability, and operational excellence standards. Support monitoring, observability, and incident response efforts when necessary. Required Qualifications Experience 10+ years of professional software engineering experience. 5+ years of hands‑on experience developing production web applications with React. Experience leading large‑scale web initiatives and influencing technical direction. Experience working within Agile development environments. Technical Skills Expert‑level Tailwind CSS and modern styling methodologies. Strong experience with Node.js‑based application development. Extensive experience consuming REST APIs. Experience integrating GraphQL services. Deep understanding of web performance optimization techniques. Strong understanding of technical SEO best practices. Experience implementing authentication and user identity solutions. Experience with feature flagging and experimentation platforms. Strong knowledge of Git‑based development workflows. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Understanding of cloud‑hosted application environments. Preferred Experience Digital commerce or consumer‑facing web platforms. Payment integrations such as digital wallets and online payment providers. Social authentication and federated identity solutions. Design systems and component‑driven development. Content management systems. Analytics, personalization, and conversion optimization initiatives. AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
