Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Coordinator)

Summary Smaller United States Naval Air Station JRB Fort Worth, Texas, is seeking a Supervisory Recreation Specialist to oversee the operation, coordination, and economical management of one pool. The incumbent will ensure that all aquatics programs and activities run efficiently and safely in accordance with rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the operation of one pool and all associated aquatics programs, including swim lessons, parties, special events, camps, swim team, swim meets, PRT, and related activities. Review patron usage and assess program needs. Research and recommend additions or changes to current programming, providing data to substantiate decisions. Ensure programs are suited to site patronage and within facility limitations while meeting time and financial constraints. Run a well‑rounded and comprehensive aquatics program for Active‑Duty personnel, families, retirees, retiree families, and DoD civilians. Oversee the maintenance of the pool, pool facilities, pump house, and equipment. Keep accurate maintenance records and ensure proper water chemistry through consistent monitoring. Maintain internal controls over aquatic facilities, equipment, vehicles, supplies, and fees. Administer all safety programs related to the aquatic operation and maintain a safe, healthful environment. Assist in preparing and administering the annual aquatics budget. Prepare paperwork and documentation for the purchase of supplies and equipment. Supervision Responsibilities Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the pool, programs, and staff, both seasonally and year‑round. Ensure lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors maintain up‑to‑date training certifications and can execute emergency action plans. Administer written and practical water safety tests. Recruit, interview, select, orient, train, and evaluate performance of staff; counsel, issue disciplinary actions, recommend awards, and approve leave. Supervise the swimming lesson program, ensuring planning, compliance with American Red Cross standards, record‑keeping, and data reporting. Monitor handling of funds and ensure DARs are properly submitted. Perform lifeguarding duties as required. Conduct Red Cross CPR/AED and first aid training for all Harbor division staff. Assist with other Division and MWR events as assigned. Perform additional duties as assigned. Staff during summer aquatics season: 3–8 Water Safety Instructors 3–4 Recreation Aides Qualifications Minimum education: Baccalaureate degree with a major in aquatics recreation or equivalent experience. At least three years of experience as a Lead Lifeguard or Lifeguard Captain, with demonstrated knowledge of lifeguarding procedures, swimming techniques, water chemistry, machinery, and program development. Knowledge of effective lifeguarding procedures and techniques. Skill in teaching swimming and lifesaving techniques. Knowledge of maintaining proper water chemistry and machinery. Ability to learn and comply with Navy Health and Safety requirements. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong presentation and training skills. Experience with budgeting and financial controls for aquatic programs. Minimum qualifying certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Lifeguard certification U.S. Navy Rescue Swimmer School (Surface or Aviation) or U.S. Navy Basic Underwater Dive School Preferred certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through national service programs, will be credited; provide details of duties, responsibilities, and hours. Requirements Must meet federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation. Must pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Must complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process and provide two forms of identification for the Form I‑9. May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations. A valid state driver’s license is required. Salary must be set up for direct deposit. Must register for Selective Service if applicable.
