JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: HEALTH AIDE REPORTS TO: SCHOOL NURSE / SITE ADMINISTRATION / CHIEF HEALTH NURSE TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182 DAYS / YEAR SALARY RANGE: CLASSIFIED SALARY SCHEDULE 9-A $18.74 - $27.95 (Employer/Employee Paid) $15.58 - $23.23 Employer Paid PERS BENEFITS: Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) – 20+ HRS. PER WEEK; Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance – 25+ HRS. PER WEEK; No State Tax FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT SUMMARY OF POSITION Provides routine to moderate basic health care services to injured and ill students, performs simple health procedures for children with special needs, serves as a member of the health services staff and assists in district-wide health program projects. Notifies school nurse, other authorities, and parents regarding student conditions, maintains records, and assists with vision, hearing, dental, and physical appraisals. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Render first aid to injured and ill students. Follow protocols and safety precautions. Perform a variety of health‑related services as delegated by the school nurse, including catheterization (if delegated) and diapering/toileting children with special needs. Assist students with medication as prescribed by physicians, approved and supplied by parents. Maintain and update students’ health and immunization records. Keep the school nurse, staff, and parents/guardians informed of student health status. Assist with basic hearing and vision screening. Help coordinate and conduct immunization audits. Refer students to the school nurse when necessary. Document care, prepare incident reports, monthly reports, and perform clerical duties as required. Clean and change clinic beds, disinfect equipment, maintain a neat clinical area, and keep supplies stocked. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Stay familiar with health guidelines and keep site administration informed of regulations. Participate in district‑wide health services meetings as requested. Administer first aid in accordance with district policies. Exercise judgment regarding pupils who become ill or injured at school. Serve as liaison between community agencies and the school. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other related duties as assigned. WORK CONTACTS Students, staff, parents, and sometimes the general public; daily contact with potential infectious conditions. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of health guidelines, public health service techniques, first aid and emergency procedures, and applicable state laws and district policies. ABILITY TO Service and maintain the confidence of students. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff. Respond quickly to emergency situations. Administer first aid per district policies. Maintain accurate records and reports. Follow oral and written instructions. Work harmoniously with colleagues. Work independently. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed under the general supervision of the School Nurse and the administrative direction of the Site Administrator. The Chief Health Nurse evaluates performance at least annually. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None CONDITIONS OF WORK Light physical activity in a normal office environment. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. SAFETY SENSITIVE Yes ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school diploma and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate. LICENSES / CERTIFICATES Standard First Aid Card, First Responder Certification, Emergency Medical Technician Certification, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. MENTAL / INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS Physical and mental/intellectual requirements include strength, dexterity, and coordination to use a keyboard and video terminal for prolonged periods; ability to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally; ability to perform fine motor and repetitive tasks; and professional communication skills.
