Transfusion Medicine Physician

Our organization is looking for a Transfusion Medicine Physician to become part of a dedicated team of 3-4 specialists in Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This role will integrate the successful candidate into a rapidly growing department that includes 18 faculty members.

The selected individual will take on the role of a clinical attending physician in our Apheresis, Transfusion, and Coagulation Services. Key clinical responsibilities will involve supporting a blood bank that conducts a comprehensive array of immunohematology tests and distributes approximately 18,000 blood products annually. Additionally, the position encompasses a therapeutic apheresis and phlebotomy service that handles around 650 cases each year, along with a coagulation service. A significant aspect of our apheresis service is the well-established preventative red blood cell exchange program, which caters to both pediatric and adult patients with hemoglobinopathies. We also facilitate collections for bone marrow transplants, CAR-T therapies, and gene therapies, while offering extracorporeal photopheresis, plasma exchange, and LDL apheresis, all supported by our exceptional apheresis nursing team.

This position offers a unique opportunity for customization based on the candidate's experience and interests. Beyond the core responsibilities, candidates may choose to focus on areas such as informatics, coagulation, or other specialties within clinical pathology. The role provides numerous opportunities for medical directorship, program development, teaching, and research.

Faculty appointments with the University of Arizona-Phoenix College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Creighton University School of Medicine are encouraged, with rank determined by the candidate's qualifications.

Ideal candidates will be board certified or eligible in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine, with preferred residency training in Clinical Pathology, Pediatrics, or Hematology/Oncology. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, physicians, clinical lab scientists, nurses, caregivers, and leadership teams to enhance patient care and support the hospital's mission are essential. Candidates must also be licensed or eligible for licensure in Arizona.
