Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to lead complex printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) design from concept through production, supporting advanced satellite and electronics development. You will own the full lifecycle of board-level analog and digital designs, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and drive high-speed digital circuitry and RF solutions. The position combines hands-on lab work, schematic and layout leadership, test system design, and production support in a dynamic engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Own PCBA development from initial concept through production release, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and cost targets.
• Design and optimize electronic sub-systems, including board-level analog and digital circuitry, to meet system-level requirements.
• Design high-speed digital circuitry, including multi-gigabit SERDES, with careful consideration of signal integrity and power integrity.
• Lead and review schematic capture activities, ensuring robust design practices and clear documentation.
• Lead and review PCB layout, working closely with layout engineers to implement best practices for high-speed and mixed-signal designs.
• Engage directly with PCB vendors to conduct design-for-manufacturing (DFM) reviews and incorporate feedback into design iterations.
• Optimize PCB stack-ups for electrical performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop detailed test plans and procedures based on high-level requirements and functional specifications.
• Perform board bring-up activities and execute test campaigns for modules and subsystems, including debugging and issue resolution.
• Design automated test systems, including test fixtures and factory test solutions, to support efficient validation and production testing.
• Support the transition of designs into production by collaborating with manufacturing, test, and quality teams.
• Develop functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures to ensure traceability and compliance.
• Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters to validate, debug, and characterize hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware, systems, and project management, to deliver integrated solutions.
• Contribute to project planning and status reporting, and support the management of technical project milestones and deliverables.

Essential Skills

• At least 7 years of industrial experience in board-level analog and digital design, including PCBA development.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in high-speed digital design, including multi-gigabit SERDES, signal integrity, and power integrity.
• At least 3 years of experience using schematic capture tools for complex electronic designs.
• At least 2 years of experience using lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters, for board bring-up and debugging.
• Demonstrated experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
• Proficiency in using Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools for PCB design and review.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong understanding of board-level design practices, including component selection, signal integrity considerations, and power distribution.
• Ability to design and optimize electronic sub-systems and PCBA architectures to meet defined requirements.
• Capability to lead and review schematic capture and PCB layout activities with attention to detail and quality.
• Experience designing automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory test solutions.
• Solid troubleshooting and debugging skills for hardware issues at the board and subsystem level.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Experience managing technical projects, including planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering milestones.
• Familiarity with analog electronic fundamentals, including transistor circuits, operational amplifiers, and filters.
• Experience in the design, implementation, bring-up, and debugging of proof-of-concept hardware and prototypes.
• Familiarity with power supply design and power distribution networks on PCBs.
• Previous work experience with a programming language for automation or embedded systems.
• Proficiency in developing programs for instrument control, including automated test and measurement setups.
• Interest in or experience supporting satellite or aerospace-related hardware development.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and external vendors.

Work Environment

The role offers a potential hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site laboratory and hardware development activities with remote work where appropriate. You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that supports satellite and advanced electronics creation, using industry-standard schematic and layout tools such as Mentor Graphics or Cadence. On-site work will involve hands-on use of lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters, as well as interaction with test fixtures and automated test setups. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Redmond, WA.

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $81.00/hr.
