Position Summary Provide quality obstetric, neonatal, and gynecologic nursing care in an environment that strives to meet patient needs on a holistic level. Position Requirements Formal Education / Training: Licensed by the State of Tennessee. Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university. BLS within 90 days of hire. At least one year of perinatal experience preferred. Certified Lactation Consultant preferred. NRP within six months of hire. ACLS certification or agree to obtain within six months of hire. Level and fetal monitoring: Level I, Level II and fetal monitoring within one year of hire. Care of the Obstetric Patient: Experience with Level I, Level II, Advanced Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring. Able to function in stressful situations and return to work within one hour when on call. Equipment and Skills Training Standard patient care equipment for services provided includes: Neonatal Cardiac Monitor; Fetal Monitor; Intrauterine Pressure Catheter; Phototherapy Lights (Bililights, Biliblanket); Infant Ventilator; NICU Isolettes and Transport Isolettes; Doppler; Flash Autoclave; Infant Security System; Newborn Photo Service Equipment; Omnicell Medication System; Network Computer System. Physical Environment Perinatal/OB‑GYN unit with patient population ranging from newborns to adults up to ninety‑nine years of age. Work requires standing for up to twelve hours a day, lifting up to 250 pounds with assistance, and communicating verbally and legibly in English. Performance Standards Conduct comprehensive patient assessment upon admission, utilizing observation, communication, and examination skills. Develop and plan individualized patient care, identifying problems, nursing diagnoses, standards of care, interventions, and attainable outcomes. Provide patient teaching, discharge planning, and post‑discharge needs as appropriate. Operate independently with treatments, procedures, and equipment consistent with policies, procedures, and competency‑based assessment. Handle, transport, store, prepare, and administer medications and solutions safely per hospital and departmental policies. Document accurately and timely. Reassess patient condition, evaluate response, and modify plan of care promptly. Assume charge responsibilities and assign staff according to patient condition, acuity, and complexity. Facilitate staff development and maintain a healing therapeutic environment for patients and families. Maintain professional appearance and adhere to cleanliness, orderliness, and safety standards.
