Public Health Nurse - Healthy Children & Families Expected starting salary is $38.36 to $46.23. Full salary is $38.36 to $57.83 Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing. Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years. Required Special Qualifications: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota is required upon employment. Certification as a Public Health Nurse in the State of Minnesota is required within six (6) months of employment. Nature of Work: Under general supervision, provides public health nursing services in the areas of adult and family health, disease prevention and control, healthy children and families, preventative health, and school health services. Provides services in a variety of settings that include home visits, office, and facilities. Supports improved health outcomes for individuals, families, communities and populations. Maintains CPR certification with the ability to perform CPR when necessary. Obtains and maintains other necessary certifications as needed. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace. Examples of Work: Assesses and screens families for strengths and risks. Documents nursing assessments and interventions using an electronic health record. Counsels pregnant clients about healthy pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum recovery, and newborn care. Counsels clients and caregivers about nurturing and attachment, child development and parenting, parental resilience, social connections, support for parents, accessing healthcare, and social and emotional competence of children. Collaborates with healthcare providers, early childhood personnel, social workers, and agencies to support families. Participates in reflective practice. Supports the department during disease outbreaks and emergency situations that may require non-standard work hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of nursing theory, principles, programs and practice. Knowledge of counseling and education methods and concepts that promote health and safety. Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and reimbursement requirements for public health services. Skill in providing ethical nursing care to clients. Skill in the use of computers and technology. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in exercising independent judgment within practice standards. Skill in providing consultation to influence others and effect change. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to apply evidence and research findings into practice. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans. Ability to advocate for the protection of the health, safety, and rights of the population. Ability to apply the principles of health equity and social determinants of health into planning and practice. Ability to adapt to changing practice in the field of public health nursing. Ability to support a quality improvement culture by growing knowledge, identifying performance improvement opportunities, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
