Scope/Purpose of the Position The Underwriting Manager is responsible for the oversight of the Underwriting department. The position is responsible to for the daily management of productivity, quality, and service levels. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions Management Understands and adheres to all department, division, and corporate policies and procedures as it pertains to their job responsibility Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department staff, which includes, but is not limited to: Supports review of complex transactions as needed Prepare and deliver regular, ongoing department meetings Completion of ongoing routine audit reporting and problem resolution Oversight of training of new hires, ongoing mentoring of existing staff, including Underwriter Team Leads and Underwriting Supervisor by developing/providing department training including new policies and ongoing refresher training to promote quality of work. Partner with other department managers to ensure smooth file flow throughout each business month Proactively communicate with sales and develops productive relationships with sales partners Reviews staffing needs including interviewing and hiring candidates Holds staff accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals and maintain consistent practices; provide ongoing feedback to associates on performance. Conducting performance evaluations in accordance with Company policy. Provide feedback to the Managing Director of Operations on the development of policies, procedures, changes and technology initiatives Participate on credit projects and initiatives at the direction of the Managing Director of Operations Balancing of department work; work planning, prioritization and assignment; establish and monitor accountability for direct reports’ job responsibilities Assist with the implementation and execution of strategic goals and objectives for the department that are aligned with corporate objectives and mission Resolving conflicts or complaints. Escalating to upper management as necessary Communicates clearly and proactively with department to ensure consistency. Demonstrate and encourage integrity and alignment with Company Vision, Mission and Values Perform other duties as assigned by Managing Director of Operations Department Support Acts as point of contact for credit escalations/ responsible for resolution of escalations that Team Leads and/or Underwriting Supervisor cannot resolve Reviews all credit exceptions Performs second level credit reviews on certain transactions which require Underwriting Management approval Work Experience and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent analytic skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within time constraints. Working knowledge of RESPA, TRID, Reg-Z, MDIA and related compliance guidelines, along with the ability to detect and rectify deficiencies and/or non-compliance on specific loans. Intermediate level of computer skills and the ability to function in a windows environment utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams Strong time management skills, fast learner, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
