Certified Medical Assistant- Primary Care (Cinco Ranch/ Richmond)

The Medical Assistant Certified (MA) position is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of clinical or administrative leadership. The MA assists providers in patient care in assigned clinical areas, including examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes. The MA also performs general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures. The MA participates in patient care under the direction of a physician and within the scope of a medical assistant. The role may include scheduling patient appointments, ensuring medical necessity compliance, and verifying eligibility for care. Qualifications Education High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.) Experience Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic/outpatient setting or one year in the Novice-II position Licenses and Certifications Required — BLS (Basic Life Support) or Instructor (AHA) and Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT Preferred CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA) Skills and Abilities Demonstrates safe performance of assigned job through ongoing skills and evaluations Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for essential functions and safety Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and co-workers with a customer service focus Knowledge of medical practice, patient care, and ability to assist with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments; knowledge of medical equipment and instruments Ability to develop and maintain clinical quality assurance and accurate medical records Problem solving with sound reasoning and judgment Provide safe, patient-centered, compassionate and competent care Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements; maintain current certifications Essential Functions People Essential Functions Promotes a positive work environment and participates in teamwork within the interprofessional care team Interacts with peers, staff, and physicians in a supportive and respectful manner; communicates clearly and professionally to promote teamwork and problem resolution Contributes toward improvement of department scores for employee engagement and peer-to-peer accountability Service Essential Functions Provides care to patients visiting the clinic under the supervision of a Physician, Registered Nurse, or clinic leadership, and collaborates with the provider team to anticipate patient needs Documents vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, medical and social history, and care administered in the patient’s EMR in accordance with policies and procedures Follows up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations and arranges appropriate referrals or appointments; supports patient activation of MyChart Contributes to improving department scores for patient satisfaction via accountability Quality/Safety Essential Functions Prepares treatment rooms for examination and assists with equipment and supplies Reports observations and problems to the physician or nurse to achieve optimal patient outcomes; protects patient privacy and safety Sterilizes instruments and equipment under supervision Supports quality and safety improvement activities through peer accountability and collaboration Finance Essential Functions Stocking of exam rooms and inventory management; uses resources efficiently and prioritizes daily tasks Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Offers innovative solutions through improvement projects and professional development Seeks guidance from preceptor and licensed personnel as needed Updates My Development Plan (MDP) on an ongoing basis Supplemental Requirements Work Attire Uniform: Yes Scrubs: Yes Business professional: No Other (department approved): No On-Call Note that employees may be required to be on-call during emergencies On Call: No Travel Travel specifications may vary by department May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area: Yes May require travel outside Houston Metropolitan area: No Required BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT Preferred CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA) Houston Methodist is an Equal Opportunity Employer. #J-18808-Ljbffr Houston Methodist
