Legal Billing Specialist

The Legal Billing Specialist manages the entire invoicing lifecycle for the firm or legal department. This role sits at the intersection of accounting and legal operations, ensuring that client invoices are accurate, compliant with specific billing guidelines, and processed efficiently. Here is a comprehensive overview of the typical responsibilities, requirements, and key skills for this role: Core Responsibilities Invoice Management: Process, review, and edit pre-bills (draft invoices) for attorney review, ensuring accurate time entry descriptions and correct rates. E-Billing Administration: Upload electronic invoices to various third-party client portals (such as Legal Tracker, TyMetrix, or CounselLink) and resolve any technical errors or rejections. Guideline Compliance: Review bills against specific client Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) to prevent deductions, ensure compliance with agreed-upon rates, and verify allowable expenses. Accounts Receivable Tracking: Monitor outstanding invoices, follow up on past-due balances, and apply client payments accurately to the firm's accounting ledger. Education & Experience Experience: Typically 2 to 5 years of billing experience, ideally within a law firm or corporate legal environment. Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is standard; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred.
