Department: School of Communication Time Type: Part time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Description: Summary: The Investigative Reporting Workshop is seeking studentReporters/Researchers for the Fall 2026 semester.Reporters/Researchers will work with publishing partners on avariety of subjects. Subjects include, but are not limited to,immigration, public health, and law enforcement. IRW StudentReporters/Researchers report directly to the Executive Editor ofthe IRW, and will interact with other staff, students, faculty, andconsultants of the IRW. This position is open to undergraduatestudents at American University. This position does not have aFederal Work Study (FWS) award. Essential Functions: Support IRW's investigations. Check the accuracy and validity of data analysis used inprojects. Handle daily data work for the various data-driven journalismprojects within the IRW. Contribute to one or more investigative reports. Request and gather public information. Clean and analyze received data. Develop journalistic stories. Competencies: Acquiring and Analyzing Information. Prioritizing and Organizing. Displaying Creativity. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-Time. 10 hours per week. Salary Range: $22.50 per hour. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Less than 1 year of relevant experience. Preferred Education and Experience: 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
