Registration Associate - Traveler (PRN)

Job Overview Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals. The Patient Account Representative supports the financial and administrative functions of the patient registration and billing process, ensuring accurate data capture, timely insurance verification, and smooth patient interactions. Key Responsibilities Communicates with patients, families, physicians, clinical staff, and insurance companies to obtain information and verify insurance coverage, ensuring quality patient care and accurate hospital accounts. Interacts with the Appeals department to overturn claim denials. Provides registration, clerical, and billing support, including scheduling, chart creation, charge entry, scanning, and point‑of‐service collections. Interviews patients and families to obtain complete, accurate demographic and financial information and ensures all required questionnaires and forms are completed per government or regulatory agency requirements. Enters data into the system for registration, billing, patient tracking, charge capture, and reconciliation in a fast, efficient way to minimize patient wait times. Verifies insurance coverage and validates authorizations as applicable. Explains regulatory financial requirements to patients or responsible parties, collects or posts deposits or deductible amounts, and reschedules appointments if necessary. Assists Patient Accounting by capturing accurate, compliant data to produce clean claims and prevent denials or delayed payments. Serves as a liaison between patients/families and department staff, informing them of procedures, delays, and answers questions. Escalates immediate needs to appropriate leaders or clinical team members. Ensures wait‑time communication by updating schedulers and patient information tools. Initiates daily medical record maintenance, including creation of patient charts, filing encounter‑specific paperwork, and maintaining correspondence with primary care providers or specialists. Provides release of medical information as required. Schedules patient appointments, contacts physician offices to resolve discrepancies, and manages referrals from faxes, phones, or other instructions. Coordinates all aspects of scheduling, including procedures, provider visits, and resource utilization. Performs administrative duties to support daily business operations (opening/closing procedures, ordering supplies, receiving and distributing mail). Attends department meetings and may serve on committees, including multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Assists supervisors/managers by supporting teammates, training, and participating in staff workflow and development. Prescreens doctor’s orders (scripts) for new patients to ensure completeness and appropriateness of scheduled appointments. Prepares case‑review materials for court preparation for forensic interviewers and providers at the Center for Safe and Healthy Children. Coordinates subpoena processes between court systems, Child Protection Center, and legal departments, and facilitates billing for expert testimony in court cases. Experience Minimum: 1year in healthcare or a related clerical, accounting, or customer‑service role. Preferred: 1year of experience in registration. Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR) or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) credentials are advantageous. Education High‑school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education may be considered in lieu of experience. Certifications No professional certifications required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with medical terminology. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Word. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated arithmetic and word‑mathematical problem‑solving skills. Excellent customer‑service skills. Ability to multitask and work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to travel as needed to support multiple locations or departments. Uphold the highest level of customer service while covering any location.
