Outpatient Child And Adolescent Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner (NYSNA)

Maimonides Health, Brooklyn's largest healthcare system, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for our Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry department. We serve over 250,000 patients annually through our 3 hospitals, 1800 physicians, and more than 80 community-based practices and outpatient centers. The system is anchored by Maimonides Medical Center, one of the nation's largest independent teaching hospitals, and includes Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital and Maimonides Children's Hospital, Brooklyn's only children's hospital and pediatric trauma center.

The Nurse Practitioner will work Monday – Friday, with days ranging from 11am – 7pm and 9am – 5pm.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing a collaborative practice agreement.
• Assessing the health status of clients/families.
• Initiating therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Providing teaching and counseling in health promotion and disease prevention.
• Documenting findings and plan of care.
• Consulting with physicians and initiating referrals.
• Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Delivering patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Professional practice includes:

• Demonstrating accountability for nursing practice.
• Advocating for patients and supporting patient rights.
• Serving as a resource person to nurses and other health team members.
• Participating in peer review and medical/nursing research studies.
• Contributing to the maintenance of a positive image of professional nursing.

Administrative practice includes:

• Participating in departmental and interdisciplinary committees.

Collaborative physician agreement includes:

• Performing duties in accordance with agreement between Nurse Practitioner and collaborating physician.
• Maintaining established departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Valid PMHNP license in NY.
• Valid DEA license.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with and prescribing to adults with mental illness.

Preferred:

• Bilingual.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with patients with psychiatric illness.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children and families in an outpatient or similar setting.
