Surgical Technologist - Operating Room - Full Time

Position Summary:\n
\nTo know and understand the principles of sterile technique and their application. To follow defined procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. To maintain a collaborative relationship with other nursing staff members, physicians, and ancillary staff. To maintain an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education and in‐service programs.\n
\nEducation, License & Cert:\n
\n- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist School, or LPN with a current license in the state of practice, or completion of a completed and appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.\n
\n- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (by NBSTSA) certification required within one year of employment (unless licensed LPN)\n
\n- If certified prior to 2021, may be grandfathered and exempt from degree requirement and certification requirement.\n
\n- Basic Life Support\n
\n- Technologist in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) (by NCCT)\n
\nExperience:\n
\nExperience preferred, but may be trained on‐the‐job, if recent graduate. Must have general knowledge of surgical procedures and draw specialized training from working with physician or physicians on the job.\n
\nEssential Functions:\n
\n1. Demonstrates competence in performance of technical skills relative to clinical area of practice\n
\n2. Utilizes and maintains surgical instruments according to manufacturer's recommendations and Department guidelines\n
\n3. Utilizes positive interpersonal skills in all forms of communication.\n
\n4. Applies base knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.\n
\n5. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts.\n
\n6. Applies the principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures.\n
\n7. Participates in orientation and training program to attain competency in all services.\n
\n8. Maintains certification (if required) by participating in continuing education activities/provides documentation of required continuing education credits.\n
\n9. Promotes teamwork and collaboration among all members of the surgical team.\n
\n10. Practices within the scope of current policies and procedures of the nursing Department and nursing unit guidelines.\n
\n11. Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility and priority setting regarding work assignment.\n
\n12. Attends and participates in unit council meetings, utilizes staff meetings and other appropriate channels to resolve problems.\n
\nOther Duties:\n
\n1. Demonstrates initiative in completing work that needs to be done, within areas of responsibility.\n
