Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: Candidate must pass a skills exam prior to orientation. Nurses are expected to maintain competence in specific nursing skills. Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings. Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing. Travel teams must have their own vehicles. Description: Unit notes indicate a small facility setting with no trauma experience required. The facility has a supportive management team. There is a 50-mile radius rule for applicants. Candidates must pass a written exam on day one of orientation; a study guide will be provided. All nurses will participate in a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. Maintaining a sterile field is critically important. Nurses are also expected to educate and practice lifts, restraints, and wound care. The emergency department has 12 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Common diagnoses include lower acuity cases, such as abdominal pain and headache. The department supports a positive culture and teamwork. Registered nurses are responsible for labs, EKGs, patient transfers, and stabilization prior to transfers of critically ill patients. Weekend requirements include two weekends per month. The charting system used is electronic. Nurse aides and paramedics support RNs in patient care. A charge nurse is present, but there are no patient assignments unless the census is above 20.
