Organization

The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Central Coast Thrift Store provides revenue to support to the Central Coast Rescue Mission drug and alcohol recovery program.

Summary

The Warehouse Worker assists with both driving responsibilities and production team, based on where they are needed most.

• Production: They will assist Production Team, Floor Associates and LRP Clients to complete all necessary tasks for ensuring things run efficiently for the store and production. This is a key position with requirements for hands on skills. The Production Assistant reports directly to the Thrift Store Supervisor. This is a full-time, non-exempt regular position located in Santa Maria, CA. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime and benefits, according to applicable guidelines.
• Driver- Duties include picking up donations throughout Central Coast, reporting to the Thrift Store Supervisor. This is a full-time, non-exempt regular position and may require overtime and/or weekend work. This position is eligible for overtime and benefits according to applicable guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Production

• Unload Truck.
• Sort clothing from donations.
• Clean and organize Production area.
• Close Production and Staging areas.
• Put out remaining merchandise onto floor.
• Front Area Support (hangers, ragging).
• Greet and assist customers on sales floor.
• Be alert for shoplifters and price tampering.
• Ensures accurate accountability for production process
• Ensures security for production center
• Ensures that production area is clean and orderly daily
• Ensures that trash and rag-out is removed from area regularly

Driver

• Drives box truck/or cargo van for the purpose of transporting items to designated Thrift Stores.
• Load and unload truck utilizing proper lifting techniques.
• Safely negotiate in a variety of environments, e.g. steep stairs, uneven surfaces.
• Prior to daily route, inspect all vehicles and maintain vehicle supplies such as gas, oil, water, tires, etc. to ensure vehicle is kept in proper working condition.
• Keeps vehicle maintenance record.
• Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles to supervisor.
• Read and understand the Thomas Guide, maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
• Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
• Comply with all Federal, State, and local laws regulating safe driving, and RMA policies and procedures.
• Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
• Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver's license classification while operating
  company vehicles.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

• Attend all safety matrix and driver meetings.
• Comply with RMA safety program.
• Clean Bathrooms before closing.
• Check to make sure all electrical appliances are turned off.
• Back-up Production functions of tagging and pricing.
• Follow all policies and procedures in Cashier Handbook.
• Know and adhere to store policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no employees reporting to this position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Valid CA driver’s license and insurable under RMA.

Skills

• Ability to reach, bend, and lift boxes, furniture, etc. into and out of delivery truck.
• Must be able to do extensive driving in a variety of road and weather conditions.
• Consistently demonstrate the ability to work safely.
• Requires strong customer service orientation.
• Possess a team player attitude and ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
• Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Able to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
• Previous route driving experience a plus.
• Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

Physical Demands

• Able to lift and move up to 60lbs.
• Hands-on position, including moving boxes, lifting merchandise, etc.

Equipment

• Box truck and/or cargo van.
• Two way radio.
• Hand truck and other tools required for safe lifting.

Work Environment

As a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury. Diverse surroundings with unpredictable environments such as uneven surfaces and potential hazards such stairs, animals, etc.
