School Nurse - Sumter School District

School NurseQualifications: Valid state license as a Registered Nurse (RN). Two (2) years of experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school district. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.Locations: May varyPerformance Responsibilities: Conducts hearing and vision screening tests and all other tests recommended by the State Board of Education and the Department of Health and Environmental Control. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. Contacts homes of children referred by principals for health reasons. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases. Attends committee meetings and conference regarding health service and health curriculum. Performs all other duties and responsibilities designated.Terms: 190 days. Salary and work year to be recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Trustees.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation for professional personnel.
