Quantum Architect (Design)

PsiQuantum is building the first useful quantum computers that deliver breakthroughs across multiple industries. Our focus is on creating million‑qubit, fault‑tolerant quantum systems using silicon photonics – leveraging high‑volume semiconductor manufacturing processes to scale out photonic quantum technologies. We develop quantum algorithms, software, and industry solutions in collaboration with leading Fortune 500 companies to translate quantum advances into real‑world impact. Job Summary Quantum architects drive research and development of photonic quantum computing architectures, from entanglement generation through to encoded logic and error correction. A full quantum architecture design is obtained by combining many architectural methods and integrating details such as routing and logic. These designs enable the System Architecture and hardware teams to produce complete specifications for the construction of the system. Candidates will work on defining quantum architecture designs and assessing their performance, interfacing with other quantum architects and system architects. Responsibilities Co‑develop a quantum architecture design in collaboration with the broader quantum architecture team, integrating various architectural methods. Specify the details of the quantum architecture design, including required routing, logic, and other implementation aspects. Develop Python tools for performance analysis of designs. Run simulations to assess the performance of design variants. Interface with the system architecture team to understand and incorporate system/hardware requirements into the design. Experience / Qualifications Degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science (PhD preferred) with a focus on quantum information theory or quantum computation. 3+ years of relevant academic or industry research experience in quantum computing or networking. Strong background in fault‑tolerant quantum computing, ideally with experience in linear optical quantum computing, quantum error correction, quantum networks, error modelling, switching/multiplexing networks, or graphical calculus such as tensor networks or ZX calculus. Experience with switching/multiplexing networks is preferred. Proven team‑player who can work effectively across departments, sites, and time zones. Ability to work independently and contribute in a fast‑moving start‑up environment. Programming experience in Python, C++ or similar languages is desirable. Competent use of collaborative software development tools (e.g., GitHub) is desirable. Compensation U.S. Base Pay Range: $120,000—$140,000 USD Bay Area Pay Range: $155,000—$170,000 USD Full‑time roles are eligible for equity and additional benefits.
