Job Summary A Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner with critical care experience and training, under the direction of the Shift Respiratory Care Supervisor, Administrative and Medical Director, is responsible for the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the pulmonary system. The Practitioner uses medical gases, ventilator support, humidification, aerosols, medication, broncho‑pulmonary drainage, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway management to provide therapeutic support. Specific techniques may include measurement of ventilator volumes, pressures, flows, airway care, trach changes, suctioning, sputum collection, arterial puncture, and blood gas analysis. Care is provided to patients of all ages and age‑related needs. Responsibilities This is a critical care position that may be assigned to any critical care unit and requires the Practitioner to function independently with minimal supervision. The Practitioner contributes to the provision of quality care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive patient outcomes. Minimum Job Requirements: Work Experience: One year of experience in a critical care environment after graduation from a formal Respiratory Care program is preferred. Experience in adult, pediatric, and neonatal respiratory care procedures is required. License / Registration / Certification Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Current Texas Respiratory Care License. Current CPR certification. ACLS certification within one year of being in the position. Education and Training Graduate of an AMA‑approved school for Respiratory Care. Skills Comprehensive knowledge of routine and critical procedures with critical thinking skills for adults, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Thorough knowledge of respiratory physiology and ability to use sound judgment in implementing clinical interventions indicated by patient status. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
