Position Summary

Under the direction of our Senior Manager of Packaging Development, you will work to develop packaging solutions for the brands assigned in Our client’s Personal Care product portfolio. In this role you will be supporting our personal care categories. This individual will support innovation, cost savings and base business continuity projects. This position will serve as a key contributing member on cross functional business teams and support the development of product/package concepts from exploration through feasibility and ultimately implementation, keeping in mind the organization's long term sustainability goals. This position is located in our Ormond Beach, FL Suns Screens Manufacturing facility. You may work on a Hybrid basis - in the office 2-3 days per week.

Accountabilities

• Manages assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship to trade dates.
• Develops, engineers, and tests packaging components and modifies designs as necessary to meet consumer requirements, functional parameters, costing targets, and manufacturing & shipping requirements. Uses data and packaging tools to support recommendations.
• Will lead projects and assist in root cause investigations related to quality inquiries, consumer feedback, and manufacturing improvement areas. This can include internal filling operations and/or external component suppliers manufacturing investigations.
• Executes new package designs and performs package component testing and qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to models & prototypes, through to unit and production tooling. Provides packaging options and risk mitigation strategies associated with each design.
• Provides technical input to package design process and assures package is designed for manufacturing acceptability, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements and shares trade-offs with Marketing for final selection. Conducts and reports results of line and qualification trials for components and finished goods production.
• Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot in an automated production environment. Clearly communicates technical issues and details to the project team and management.
• Utilizes appropriate investigative tools (i.e.-test result data), good engineering design principles, and GMP’s when investigating issues and recommending corrective actions.
• Works with manager to ensure the Packaging development process is functioning efficiently by assessing current processes and identifying ways to streamline or improve. Provides SOP improvements & updates.
• Supports product development and quality related projects by collaborating with key functional partners and external suppliers.
• Creates and presents reports for management and other internal groups. Reports include trips, supplier audits, and updates on current project status.
• Supports investigation of consumer complaints (customer/consumer) to meet applicable standard operating procedures.
• Writes, reviews, revises, and approves new packaging specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM’s), packaging assembly specs, technical drawings, resin data sheets, etc.

Required Education, Skills and Experience

BS in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering field. Ideally 3+ years’ experience working in a packaging related field, ideally with consumer products companies. Will also consider entry-level candidates with relevant co-op or internship experiences, or 1-2 years relevant experience.

Desirable Education, Skills and Experience

Knowledge of liquid & non-liquid packaging components such as: aerosols, pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, flexible films, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, displays), labels, jars, cast and blown films, film & tube laminations, dispensing options & features, and decoration methods. Basic understanding of plastic converting/processing (injection & extrusion blow molding) Demonstrated performance as an Associate Packaging Engineer with excellent leadership potential Good problem solving and time Management skills Project Management Experience and structured problem solving; Validation; DOE; Root Cause Analysis Experience presenting project plans to Senior Management Communicating packaging sustainability goals and collaborating with Global cross-functional team leads Working knowledge of purchasing of packaging components and close collaboration with Procurement Experience in an FDA related regulated products a plus Ensure the quality of packaging produced is consistent with company Quality standards Conduct and report results of line and qualification trials for components and finished goods production Excellent communication skills, written and verbal to both internal and external stakeholders Write and input specifications in PLM data base system, G2M, and other systems as required Experience developing solutions within the DTC/E-commerce space a plus Tracking and reporting progress against sustainability goals Ability and confidence to see & suggest improvements in department ways of working Good computer skills – Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel required with Adobe Illustrator & CAD a plus

Working Relationships

Close relationships required with Product Development, Procurement, Operations, Commercial teams, and Marketing Consumer Affairs, Reliability Engineering, Corporate Quality, Legal and R&D External engagement and relationship building will include Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers

Work Environment

Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (line trials, auditing, lab testing) Ability and willingness to travel, as in the execution of the duties of this position the employee may travel up to approximately 20%, or slightly more, of their work time Work schedules may vary from typical business hours Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment
