Vast Networks is looking for a monitor and control systems engineer to establish a robust " out of band" monitoring system for its regional fiber network in California. The requirements are:
Be able to design, install and program monitoring systems for each location. Various protocols to be used will include dry contacts, rs232, SNMP sessions, and other IP protocols. Software to be designed to based different levels of alarms depending on the devices being monitored. Sensors to be used include dry contacts, voltage, current, fuel pressure, and AC gas pressures, as well as IP status queries on network equipment.
In addition the engineer will design and install a separate “out of band” network running parallel to the fiber network. This will include cellular and satellite modems. This commonly works with a product line like the open gear products or other manufacturers. These modems will connect via IP to a Netops console server or similar server. This network will operate continuously in a “heart beat mode”.
Design and implement the remote control of the network. This will remote circuit breakers both DC and AC. Switching between various power supplies. Testing and measurement of standby generators, air conditioning systems, and security systems. The ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of site visits necessary.
The ideal candidate with be versed in both the hardware and software aspects of this project. It is meant to be a continuously evolving system
