Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering exceptional patient-centered care within telemetry units. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level demonstrates specialized skills and certifications, working independently while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care:
  • Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac observation.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and respond swiftly to changes in cardiac rhythms, neurological status, and overall condition.
  • Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, and monitor therapeutic effects.
  • Create and implement personalized care plans for cardiac, neurological, and related conditions.
  • Advocate for patients, ensuring dignity, empathy, and compassion.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Promote evidence-based telemetry care practices.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to infection control and institutional policies.
  • Comply with regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Report safety hazards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Documentation:
  • Accurately document patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following patient care standards.
• Professional Development and Leadership:
  • Mentor and precept new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
  • Engage in continuing education and unit-based learning.
  • Serve as a resource for best telemetry practices.
  • Act as Relief Charge Nurse when needed.
• Emergency Preparedness:
  • Respond promptly and effectively to cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmias and chest pain using advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience:
  • Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care settings.
  • Experience providing post-procedure care including post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG care.
  • Proficient in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.
• Competencies:
  • Technical proficiency with centralized cardiac monitoring systems.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry nursing experience considered.
• Licenses:
  • Current Registered Nurse license valid in the state of practice.
• Certifications:
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional nurses must obtain within six months.
  • Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.
