Director of Finance

Role Summary: The Director of Finance with the support of the controller role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across expense, revenue, and budgeting functions. The Director of Finance serves as the operational leader of the finance department, translating strategic direction from the Controller into execution. Role Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance CPA preferred 7+ years accounting experience 5+ years supervising a multi-functional finance team Experience in nonprofit accounting and regulatory compliance (CFR, OPWDD) Payroll experience preferred Must be able to display a high level of professionalism and discretion and understand the sensitive nature of confidential information with superior emotional intelligence. Role Responsibilities: Oversee daily financial operations across expense, revenue, and payroll/FP&A functions Ensure timely and accurate monthly close in alignment with 15-business-day target Review financial statements and supporting schedules prior to Controller review Ensure compliance with GAAP, NYS CFR, OPWDD, and other regulatory requirements Support Controller in preparation of Board and Committee reporting materials Identify operational risks and implement corrective actions Establish clear expectations, deadlines, and performance standards through regular supervisions, performance evaluations and professional development opportunities Develop team capabilities to reduce reliance on Director-level execution Reviews and approves payroll to ensure accuracy. Participates in interview process, hiring decisions, and ensuring all staff is held accountable to all policies and procedures Ensure expense management, AP, and general accounting functions operate efficiently Oversee revenue cycle processes including billing and collections Ensure budgeting, forecasting, and payroll processes are accurate and timely Monitor KPIs such as close timeline, AR days, and expense variances. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance (or related field). Experience 7+ years accounting experience 5+ years supervising a multi-functional finance team Experience in nonprofit accounting and regulatory compliance (CFR, OPWDD) Payroll experience preferred CPA preferred Equal Opportunity Employer.
