Phlebotomist (Contract / Potential Permanent) Location: Murfreesboro, TN Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. Projected Duration: 3months, with potential for permanent position. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) processes in a clear and courteous manner. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understand all physician orders; match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimens at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label and follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to respond to inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in some states). Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipuncture in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Minimum of 2 years of experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
