Clinical Professional Development Practitioner Job Code: ED1027 Employment Type: Full Time | 40 hours a week Travel: Travel may be required between clinical locations as needed including Culpepper, Haymarket, and Manassas. Job Summary The Clinical Professional Development Practitioner is a registered nurse responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing educational activities to promote individual development and competency among nursing department team members. The CPDP serves as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, partner for practice transition, and advocate for the nursing professional development specialty. The role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that align with organizational needs and vision while maintaining exemplary practice in accordance with Nursing Professional Development standards and UVA Community Health ASPIRE behavioral standards. Job Competencies Education Collaborate with organizational and nursing leaders to identify learning gaps and develop strategies to address them. Develop learning outcomes aligned with stakeholder goals. Apply best practice standards, including adult learning principles, in planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities. Evaluate the impact of programming on learners, resources, and patient outcomes, and make adjustments in collaboration with nursing leaders. Respect diversity by incorporating inclusive educational design to meet learner needs. Competency Management Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop specialty-specific competencies for orientation and ongoing assessment. Assist with competency management using data tools to capture knowledge and performance. Support development of training and assessment tools for new processes and equipment. Collaborative Partnerships Promote evidence‑based learning experiences through consultation with clinical leaders and experts. Provide consultation and educational support via governance committees and collaboration with organizational leaders. Partner with nursing leaders to identify and support the education and development needs of staff. Inquiry Model the integration of evidence‑based practices in learning content and delivery. Use evaluation data to inform future educational offerings. Onboarding and Orientation Provide facilitation support to orientation and onboarding programs. Assist preceptors and leaders in promoting positive orientation experiences tailored to specialty environments. Design, develop, and implement specialty-specific educational activities for new hires and nurse residents. Role Development Mentor and support preceptors in assigned specialty. Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning through personal educational opportunities. Qualifications Education: BSN required. Master’s degree in a related field (nursing, education, or another clinical practice area) required within 3 years of hire. Experience: Minimum three years of nursing practice and two years in a specialty area or clinical education. Licensure & Certification: Current, unencumbered licensure in Virginia. Certified in AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS or PALS as appropriate for specialty. AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS certified instructor preferred. Professional certification in the area of focus preferred. Skills: Excellent written and oral communication, strong presentation and speaking skills, interpersonal, planning, problem‑solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Physical Demands Work Function: Sedentary to Light Physical Demand. Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Other May require safety equipment such as a HEPA mask for infection prevention.
