The home health aide performs a variety of basic patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients under the supervision of the registered nurse. This position provides individualized patient care for patients in all developmental stages throughout the life span including: Neonates - 0-28 days, Infant - 1-12 months, Child - 1-12 years, Adolescent - 13-17 years, Adult - 18-72 years, Geriatric - 72 + years according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Primary job duties include performing or assisting patients to perform personal care activities as ordered on the Aide Plan of Care, performing health related tasks under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech therapist, documenting appropriate information on patient care record, taking measures to protect patient rights and safety, contributing to program effectiveness, organizing and performing work effectively and efficiently, maintaining and adjusting schedule to enhance agency performance, demonstrating a daily commitment to the values of the agency, demonstrating positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the agency, maintaining and promoting customer satisfaction, and effectively demonstrating the mission, vision and values of the Agency on a daily basis.

Job specifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of Nurse Assistant Certification course, current listing on North Carolina Division of Facility Services Nurse Aide Registry, two years work experience in hospital, nursing home, or home health setting, sufficient dexterity to take patients' vital signs and to measure patient intake and output, ability to speak clearly for patient communication, ability to interact positively with patients and patients' families, staff in both verbal and written form, ability to follow detailed and diverse instructions for assisting patients in the daily living routine, long and short-term memory, ability to create and follow a daily schedule of visits, utilization of vision, hearing, and sense of smell, frequent exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious diseases, dangerous animals and traffic hazards while home visiting, potential threat to personal safety, temperature changes and weather extremes, flexible schedule to accommodate staffing needs which may include weekends/holiday, and on call, patients in all stages of life, valid North Carolina Driver's License and an operational vehicle.
