Description
Under general supervision, to perform journey-level electrician work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems and related equipment and fixtures in County facilities. * * * * * * * * * * * * IMPORTANT * * * * * * * * * * * NOTE: Candidates who meet the employment standards will be invited to take an in-personal practical examination tentatively scheduled for the week of July 20th, 2026. Qualifying candidates will be notified of the examination instructions. Typical Tasks

Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to the successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for electricians,
or
Four (4) years of equivalent electrician training and/or electrician experience,
or
Possession of a valid Electrician Certification issued by the State of California.

Description

- Installs transfer switches, junction boxes, conduit, conductors, circuit breakers, and transformers, and connects wires in breaker panels;
- Installs and modifies lighting fixtures, electrical outlets, and other electrical fixtures on remodeling projects;
- Installs electrical outlets, plugs, and switches to accommodate the installation of air conditioning equipment, exhaust fans, and generators;
- Rewires electric controls, regulating valves, electric doors, and alarm systems;
- Tests, maintains, and repairs automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, emergency generators and other back-up electrical equipment, switch gear, breakers, fans, and motors;
- Tests and repairs centrifuges, compressors, X-ray equipment, network clock systems, laundry equipment, industrial kitchen equipment, cooling tower motors, vacuum pumps, motor control centers, photovoltaic systems, pool and sewer pumps, automated arms, gates, sliding doors, and fluorescent lighting, including advanced lighting control systems and aviation lighting systems;
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical equipment, electrical circuitry, and pneumatic tube systems, replacing components and electrical circuits, as necessary;
- Cleans, torques, tightens, and services electrical equipment;
- Replaces light bulbs, electric cords, plastic light shields, ballast, power supplies, receptacles, disconnects, and motor starters;
- May be required to work alongside employees in other trades;
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required*;
- Performs other related duties, as required.

- *As a condition of employment, pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100-3109 and Local Ordinance, all County of Santa Clara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (DSW), including extra help. - Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, at all levels, including colleagues, the public, and representatives of other agencies.
