Summary: Provide assistance to Perinatologist in gathering data, operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment, and obtain diagnostic quality images on the female pelvic organs, uterus and fetus. Maintains all necessary supplies and equipment for the Antenatal Diagnostic Testing Unit. Responsibilities Perinatal ultrasounds Criteria A: Maintain full working knowledge of ultrasound techniques and anatomy in obstetrical and gynecological patients. Perinatal ultrasounds Criteria B: Perform initial evaluation of fetal anatomy, biometric measurements and fetal activity. Assist Perinatologist with scanning of patient Criteria A: Explain procedure to patient and significant other. Criteria B: Demonstrate normal anatomy and relay findings to doctor. Criteria C: Discuss results of exam with patient. Criteria D: Interpret findings and present to doctor. Assist Perinatologist with amniocentesis Criteria A: Explain procedure to the patient, ensure that appropriate forms are filled out. Criteria B: Set up equipment needed for the procedure. Criteria C: Assist needle insertion with ultrasound guidance. Criteria D: Explain post-amniocentesis restrictions to patient. Evaluate and maintain equipment and materials needed for procedures. Maintain inventory of supplies, linens and instrument trays needed to efficiently provide ultrasounds, amniocentesis and gynecologic examinations. Continuing Education: Attend continuing education programs and participate in professional organizations. Maintain and update educational records. Maintain teaching tapes for ultrasound cases. Assist in orientation and training of radiology residents. Performs other duties as assigned. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Education, Skills & Experience Required: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography registered in OB/GYN within one year of hire. Desired: One year experience in OB ultrasound. Other Information: Registered RDMS within 1 year required; two to three years ultrasound experience preferred, with at least one year OB ultrasound preferred.
