This position is with the City of New Orleans, located at 1340 Poydras Street, Suite 900, New Orleans, LA. The salary is $38,433.00 annually. The job type is probationary and the department is the Police Department.

Kind Of Work

This is semi-skilled work operating automotive equipment with responsibility for towing functions for the Parking, Towing and Abandoned Vehicles Unit of the Department of Public Works. Work includes storing and securing crime scene vehicles and may involve hazardous situations when removing and impounding vehicles. Work may also include light or heavy physical labor when not operating equipment; and related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid class D (or higher) Louisiana driver's license. Applicants must have a good driving record for the last eighteen (18) months. Applicants who have outstanding traffic or parking violations, or one or more "Driving While Intoxicated Violations" within the last eighteen (18) months will not be eligible for employment in this classification. Applicants may be hired pending the results of a traffic violations check, but any applicant so hired and later found to be in violation of these requirements shall be dismissed during his/her probationary period. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify driver's license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.

Kind Of Examination

A written exam weighted 100%. This is an original entrance examination. The Police Department will conduct a background investigation which will include a computer voice stress analysis (CVSA), a urinalysis to detect usage of illegal narcotic substances, and a check of arrest and conviction record.

High school diploma and general equivalency diploma (GED) must be issued by a state Department of Education or an institution recognized by a state Department of Education. Certificates of completion, high school diplomas and GED from institutions not recognized by a state Department of Education are not acceptable.
