Travel Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Abilene, Texas

Experienced Labor & Delivery RNs can join a collaborative team in Abilene, Texas, for a 13-week travel nursing contract supporting mothers, newborns, and families. This on-site L&D nursing assignment offers the opportunity to provide high-quality obstetric care in a welcoming West Texas community known for its friendly atmosphere, cultural attractions, and access to outdoor recreation.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,040–$2,150
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
• Shift: 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Call: Rare call may be required during low census
• Weekend Coverage: Weekend shifts may be scheduled during the assignment
• Orientation: 36 hours, including required onboarding modules
• Flexibility: May be asked to float to another floor or campus based on staffing needs

Travel Labor & Delivery RN Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas; license in hand is required at submission
• At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience required; 3 years preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
• AWHONN education or certification appropriate to the role, including fetal monitoring competency
• Experience caring for neonates, infants, adolescents, and adults in an obstetric setting
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work night shifts, provide weekend coverage, and float as needed
• Ability to complete required compliance and laboratory items within established onboarding timelines

Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period.
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring, NSTs, and other appropriate assessments.
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, pregnancy-induced hypertension, hemorrhage, shock, and other high-risk obstetric conditions.
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, cesarean sections, amniocentesis, cervical cerclage, and other obstetric procedures.
• Administer and monitor medications and therapies such as oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, antihypertensives, anticoagulation therapy, insulin drips, and epidural anesthesia.
• Provide newborn assessments, thermoregulation, identification and security banding, metabolic screening, cord care, and support for neonatal hypoglycemia or abstinence concerns.
• Support breastfeeding and lactation education, car-seat education, discharge teaching, and ongoing family education.
• Perform IV starts, Foley catheter management, blood and blood-product administration, wound care, and other unit-based nursing procedures.
• Maintain accurate electronic documentation and communicate effectively with physicians, midwives, respiratory services, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams.
• Float to other units or campuses when needed while maintaining safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
