Job Overview

General Summary of Position
In this role, you will deliver pharmaceutical care to designated patients while working under the guidance of a senior clinical pharmacist or manager. Your responsibilities will include evaluating and interpreting physician orders, dispensing medications, and providing pharmaceutical supplies in line with established operational protocols, professional standards, and applicable state, district, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess medication orders for precision and completeness, addressing any discrepancies by communicating with physicians, clinical pharmacists, or nursing staff before dispensing medications.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of compounding or verifying the preparation of extemporaneous products, suggesting alternative options when necessary.
  • Prepare IV admixtures and compound sterile products, including but not limited to large volume parenteral mini-bags, TPN solutions, and hazardous agents such as cytotoxic drugs.
  • Independently handle non-evaluative drug information inquiries.
  • Monitor and take necessary actions to ensure optimal patient drug therapy, appropriate drug selection, and minimal adverse drug reactions, under the supervision of a senior clinical pharmacist or manager.
  • Review patient profiles to identify contraindications with prescriptions, screening drugs and dosages to ensure they align with therapeutic goals and the patient’s physiological conditions. Participate in monitoring drug therapy under the oversight of a clinical pharmacist in decentralized settings.
  • Dispense controlled substances while maintaining an accurate inventory, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and departmental policies.
  • Provide technical oversight to support staff, managing workflow and attendance to ensure efficient operations. Verify the accuracy of technicians in medication preparation and packaging.
  • Enter and confirm data for drug orders in the computer system. In decentralized environments, instruct patients and families on safe medication usage and counsel them on potential side effects.
  • Stay informed about current trends and advancements in the field by reading relevant literature, attending seminars and conferences, and completing required continuing education credits.
  • Engage in departmental and hospital educational initiatives, including journal clubs, grand rounds, and professional organizations.
  • Contribute to achieving established goals and objectives while adhering to departmental policies, quality standards, safety protocols, and organizational values. Ensure compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Participate in meetings and committees, representing the department and organization in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams focused on quality and service improvement.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Doctoral degree (PharmD) from an accredited college of pharmacy required, or
  • An equivalent pharmacy degree from an accredited institution is required.
Experience
  • 1-2 years of direct patient care experience in a hospital environment is required, and
  • PGY-1 residency is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Pharmacist (RPH) licensure in the state of practice is required upon hire, and
  • Board certification is preferred upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer proficiency is preferred.

This position offers a competitive salary range of USD $49.32 - USD $94.70 per hour.
