About the Position

Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: CVOR Surgical Duration: 12 months Shift: Day Shift with Weekend and Weekday Call Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Two (2) years current experience in a large Operating Room required; Current Cardiovascular experience required. License: BLS certification required Certifications: Certified Surgical Technologist credential preferred Must-Have: - Superior knowledge of advanced surgical equipment and instrumentation - Leadership abilities - Skills in organizing and coordinating effective use of personnel and materials - Knowledge related to emergency situations - Critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of patients and surgeons - Ability to perform instrument counts and maintain accurate counts during procedures - Preparation and maintenance of the sterile field - Patient skin preparation and monitoring Description: Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective, and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety. Demonstrates superior knowledge of advanced surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation. Demonstrates leadership abilities. Demonstrates skills in organizing and coordinating the effective use of personnel and materials. Develops, organizes, and delivers continuing education topics. Applies knowledge related to emergency situations. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of the patient and the surgeon. Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure. Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures. Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the Operating Room. Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment. Positions and repositions the patient during surgery. Helps monitor patients during surgery. Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase. Performs scrub functions. Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source. Maintains current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medications used intraoperatively. Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops, and publications. Follows all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures. Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required. The role requires a team player who is flexible and accustomed to a fast-paced environment. Ortho, ENT, and/or vascular experience is a plus. Transplant experience is a plus.
