Primary Purpose of Department
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UNC Charlotte has approximately 500 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. The faculty value student-faculty engagement and excellent undergraduate teaching. The Department is located in the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) Building on campus, which has exceptional teaching, laboratory, and research facilities.

Description of Work

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The UNC Charlotte Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position in the area of Environmental Engineering. This is a 9-month teaching position on an initial 2-year, renewable contract.

Essential Duties: Teaching professors support the academic mission of a department through distinguished teaching, curriculum innovation, mentoring, and professional development. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. The candidate's primary focus is excellence in teaching and student engagement, including:

1. Teaching : Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering with a focus on environmental engineering and/or water resources engineering.
2. Assessment Preparation : Participate in departmental preparations for the inaugural ABET accreditation of our Environmental Engineering program, including contributions to our assessment efforts and support in drafting of our self-study.
3. Curriculum Development : Contribute to the development and enhancement of the civil and/or environmental engineering curriculum, incorporating industry trends and advancements in the field.
4. Research and Scholarship : Engage in scholarly activities related to pedagogy, curriculum development, or applied research that enhances the teaching mission of the department.
5. Service : Participate in service activities at the departmental, college, and university levels.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering (or a closely related field) is required at the time of the appointment. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, professional experience in civil engineering, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.

Necessary Licenses/Certifications
Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred (not required).
