The Town of Crewe is seeking a dynamic and passionate Director of Public Utilities or Water Director to lead our water and wastewater operations during an unprecedented period of growth and modernization. We are embarking on major infrastructure improvements including a complete transformation of our water treatment and delivery systems.

Option 1: Director of Public Utilities - Full Scope Leadership Take the helm of both our water and wastewater operations. Youll lead a dedicated team through major infrastructure upgrades while maintaining our excellent service standards. This comprehensive role offers the opportunity to shape policy drive innovation and oversee millions of dollars in critical infrastructure investments. Youll work directly with state agencies manage complex projects and build the foundation for our communitys future utility needs.

Option 2: Water Director - Specialized Excellence Focus your expertise on our water treatment operations that have consistently earned the VDH Gold Award for water quality. Lead our water treatment plant through its next evolution including potential facility replacement advanced metering infrastructure and comprehensive distribution system upgrades. This specialized role allows you to dive deep into water treatment excellence regulatory compliance and cutting-edge technology implementation while maintaining the gold standard of water quality our community expects.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesRequired:Comprehensive knowledge of municipal utilities administration and operationsAbility to exercise sound judgment in emergenciesAbility to review and analyze plans and specifications for the maintenance repair and construction of public infrastructureAbility to formulate comprehensive operational policies and proceduresAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials other public officials employees contractors and the general publicPreferred:Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects and grant managementData analysis and trend assessment capabilitiesExperience developing and implementing improved operational procedures for utility systemsEducation and ExperienceMinimum Requirements:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school or equivalent amount of training and experienceClass II Water license Class II Wastewater licenses (for Director of Public Utilities position)College degree or equivalent experience preferred

Valid Virginia drivers licenseAbility to work nights holidays and weekends as required during emergencies Willingness to work in extreme weather and emergency conditionsPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions: Position requires availability for nights holidays and weekends to direct emergency operations and ensure continuation of essential services. May require work in extreme weather and emergency conditions. This is semi-sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 pounds requiring reaching grasping and repetitive motions. Strong communication skills essential for coordinating with team members officials and the public. Visual acuity required for data analysis and equipment monitoring.
