Job Title: Registered Nurse - ER Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2+ years of recent Emergency Department experience License: Active Registered Nurse License required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - NRP - PALS - CPI or MOAB Must-Have: - Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival - Comfort in holding admitted patients in the Emergency Department - Experience with IV starts and multitasking for multiple systems - Continuous patient monitoring and ability to identify patient severity Description: The Emergency Department has 21 beds. Emergency Department visits average 85-95 per day. Patient types range from newborns to geriatric patients. Common conditions include respiratory distress, diabetes, GI bleeds, COPD, and strokes. Experience with minor traumas such as motor vehicle accidents and falls is required. Familiarity with psychiatric and mental health issues is necessary. The Registered Nurse will support a patient ratio of 1:3. Support on the unit includes charge nurses who may or may not carry a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in the Emergency Department. Clientists are available upon patient admission. The team utilizes an electronic medical record system. Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and medication dispensing through Pyxis. There is no floating to other units. Weekend rotations are mandatory, with every other weekend scheduled. Work will follow a 5/2 rotation most weeks, with some variations. Time off requests are limited to 7 days, requiring an extension of 1 week for every full week requested off. Only one weekend of time off is allowed per 13-week contract. Holiday work expectations include working 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub colors are pewter, while t-shirts should be gray, white, or black. Jackets must be either gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. The unit culture is traveler-friendly.
