Coaches are required to have an FBI/BCI background check, hold a valid Pupil Activity Permit, and meet all the additional training requirements set forth by Youngstown City School District and the OHSAA. See the attached job description for additional information.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as the Varsity High School Head Coach for our [Sport] team. The Head Coach will be responsible for leading all aspects of the varsity [Sport] program, including player development, game strategy, and team management, while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching plan that emphasizes skill development, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning for student-athletes.
• Organize and conduct regular practices, drills, and scrimmages to enhance individual and team performance, while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.
• Analyze opponents and develop game strategies and tactics to maximize the team's competitive advantage during matches or competitions.
• Evaluate and select student-athletes for the varsity team, considering skill level, attitude, commitment, and sportsmanship.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to student-athletes, helping them navigate academic, personal, and athletic challenges.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders regarding team expectations, schedules, and program updates.
• Supervise assistant coaches, volunteers, and team managers, delegating responsibilities and coordinating efforts to support the overall success of the program.
• Ensure compliance with school policies, athletic association rules, and safety protocols, prioritizing the well-being and health of student-athletes at all times.

Certification/License

• Active Pupil Activity Permit

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred, with relevant coaching certifications and training.
• Previous experience as a coach or player at the high school, club, or collegiate level, with a strong understanding of the sport and its technical aspects.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to achieve their full potential.
• Knowledge of coaching principles, training methods, and sports psychology, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Ability to foster a positive team culture based on respect, integrity, and inclusivity, while holding student-athletes accountable for their actions on and off the field.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate practice schedules, games, and team events.
• Passion for working with young athletes and helping them grow both athletically and personally through the sport.
• Commitment to upholding the values and mission of the school, promoting academic excellence, character development, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
