2nd Shift Production Supervisor

The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor oversees Area Leaders, Operators, and Technicians on the evening shift to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role focuses on coordinating production activities, resolving quality and process issues, optimizing resources, and maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise Area Leaders, Operators, and Technicians on 2nd shift, providing clear direction, training, coaching, and discipline to ensure high performance and adherence to scheduled requirements.
• Develop and manage production plans for the department, communicate responsibilities, establish production timelines, and ensure production targets and results are achieved.
• Identify, record, and report quality non-conformances, escalate issues to the Quality Manager, and prevent further processing, assembly, or delivery of non-conforming product.
• Investigate non-conforming product produced on the shift, troubleshoot root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Address all quality-related problems promptly and provide resolutions and recommendations to minimize production interruptions.
• Ensure that product identification, traceability, process control, and packaging instructions are followed consistently and accurately at all times.
• Analyze equipment and process downtime, identify underlying problems, and implement solutions to improve uptime and overall efficiency.
• Minimize operating costs through effective planning and efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment.
• Participate in internal quality audits to evaluate the effectiveness of the quality system and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor employee attendance using the WFN time and attendance system and ensure accurate recording of work hours.
• Review end-of-shift reports for accuracy, completeness, and clarity, and communicate key information to plant leadership.
• Ensure adherence to all company policies, including health and safety, quality and environmental systems, human resources policies, and the employee handbook.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and legislation, including environmental regulations, regulations for industrial establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Proactively search out, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
• Assist plant leadership in driving and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production, quality, and safety.
• Support the hiring process by participating in candidate evaluation and assist with new associate orientation and onboarding.
• Promote a safety-focused culture on the plant floor, ensuring proper use of PPE and safe work practices at all times.

Essential Skills:

• Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar role as a Production Supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a large team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Hands-on experience in production management and production supervision, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Demonstrated supervisory skills, including coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution.
• Experience with process improvement in a manufacturing setting, including identifying inefficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
• Knowledge and experience working in the automotive industry, including familiarity with automotive processes and operations.
• Knowledge and experience working in a robotic welding environment.
• Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application to production operations.
• Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations applicable to industrial establishments.
• Ability to communicate effectively in bilingual environments (Spanish/English), with bilingual Spanish/English proficiency preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and work with push/pull forces of up to 50 lbs or less.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience supervising cross-functional production teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical skills to review downtime data, production reports, and quality metrics and translate findings into action plans.
• Comfort working with time and attendance systems such as WFN for monitoring and reporting employee attendance.
• Attention to detail in maintaining accurate documentation, including end-of-shift reports and quality records.
• Ability to participate in and support internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with quality, maintenance, and plant leadership teams.
• Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and production demands.

Work Environment:

This role is based primarily on the plant floor in a high-volume manufacturing facility, with approximately 10% of time spent in an office setting and 90% on the production floor where personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., supporting 2nd shift operations. The environment involves working around automated and robotic welding equipment, production machinery, and standard industrial processes, requiring adherence to safety protocols, proper use of PPE, and physical capability to lift up to 35 lbs and handle push/pull forces of up to 50 lbs or less.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $75000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
