Substitute Custodian

Custodian Position

Job duties will depend on building assignment. Training will be provided.

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Civil Service eligibility
• Physical ability to handle materials weighing up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to work without supervision
• Honesty
• Ability to take directions
• Cooperate and get along with others
• Work as a member of a team

Desirable:

• Possess good public relation skills
• Possess knowledge of means, methods and materials used in performance of custodial work

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of a Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat, safe and clean at all times
• Shovels, plows and salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate
• Dusts and cleans on a daily schedule
• Sweeps and/or vacuums assigned area daily
• Cleans corridors and steps after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it
• Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
• Keeps waste baskets empty and clean
• Lowers the United States Flag each school day
• Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, weed removal, tree trimming and shrubs to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition
• Performs minor building repairs
• Reports immediately to the Building Administrator any damage to school property
• Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Building Administrator
• Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building Administrator
• Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
• Assumes the responsibility for the closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned off
• Cleans chalkboards at least once a week
• Climbs ladder to make repairs, changes lights, cleans walls and windows
• Cleans door glass daily
• Keeps custodian closets clean and orderly at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned
