Orthopaedics - Clinical/Translational Research Coordinator II

Discover Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a leading academic medical center located in Nashville, Tennessee. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking an experienced Clinical Research Coordinator to support multi‑center, DoD‑funded randomized clinical trials focused on spine surgery outcomes. Job Summary The Clinical Research Coordinator will enroll and monitor study participants undergoing spine surgery at VUMC, ensuring strict adherence to study protocols and regulatory requirements. The role will work closely with the Principal Investigator, spine surgeons, rehabilitation providers, and the research team to uphold protocol integrity. Key Responsibilities Enrolling and monitoring study participants undergoing spine surgery. Maintaining and updating study protocols to ensure compliance. Leading Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, including initial submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews. Overseeing patient recruitment, enrollment, and follow‑up. Facilitating collaboration with PI, surgeons, and rehabilitation staff to uphold protocol integrity. Organizing and leading weekly meetings with PI, co‑investigators, and study staff to review progress. Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of study procedures and communications. Ensuring research is conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and sponsor guidelines. Recruiting and enrolling appropriate individuals for study participation according to protocol. Completing assessment procedures with participants in clinic or remotely. Scheduling participants for initial and follow‑up appointments. Conducting follow‑up calls, emails, or mailings related to study activities. Communicating regularly and effectively with investigators and team members. Maintaining study database and preparing data reports. Attending weekly research team meetings and contributing to a positive work environment. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Minimum 2 years of clinical research experience. Strong commitment to advancing innovative healthcare solutions. Ability to work Monday‑Friday during traditional daytime business hours.
