About The Role As an Animal Care Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, well-being, and humane care of research animals that contribute to life‑changing medical and scientific advancements. Working as part of a dedicated and compassionate team, you will support daily animal husbandry activities, maintain clean and safe environments, and help uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and regulatory compliance. What You’ll Do Here Provide daily care and husbandry for animals, including feeding, cleaning, enrichment, health observations, and maintaining a comfortable environment. Handle and work with a variety of species, including mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, swine, and non‑human primates, always with professionalism, empathy, and respect for animal welfare. Monitor animal behavior and health status and promptly communicate observations to the appropriate teams. Maintain animal housing areas by performing cleaning, sanitation, cage‑changing, and environmental monitoring activities. Operate and maintain equipment such as cage washers, autoclaves, and animal transport equipment. Support animal receiving, room transfers, study assignments, and animal movement throughout the facility. Monitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, and overall room cleanliness. Maintain inventory levels and ensure animal care supplies are stocked and available. Support research and facility operations by assisting with animal transport, cage movement, and other cross‑functional activities. Accurately document activities in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), ALCOA+ principles, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements. Follow all safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and biosecurity protocols. Participate in rotating weekend and evening schedules to ensure continuous animal care. What You’ll Need to Succeed High School Diploma and/or GED required; BS/BA in a scientific discipline Minimum of 0-1 of related experience. ALAT certification preferred. Positive attitude toward work and co‑workers. Genuine passion for animal care and welfare. Ability to work with a variety of animal species. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Excellent observation and communication skills. Comfortable performing physically active work, including lifting, standing, and moving throughout the facility. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Flexibility to participate in weekend and evening rotations.
