\nWorking across the organization, the Information Technology Manager oversees the Museum's technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, technical support, and institutional systems. This position manages IT personnel, external service providers, budgets, and technology projects while ensuring that technology supports staff productivity, Museum operations, collections stewardship, and the visitor experience.
\nThe ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with effective leadership, sound judgment, and a service-oriented approach. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional who enjoys solving complex problems, improving organizational systems, building collaborative relationships, and balancing strategic planning with hands-on technical support.
\n \nWhat You'll Do
\n- \n
- Lead daily IT operations, supervise assigned personnel, establish service priorities, and coordinate with external technology providers. \n
- Develop and implement technology plans, infrastructure improvements, equipment replacement schedules, and recommendations for future technology investments. \n
- Manage relationships with the Museum's managed service provider and other technology vendors, overseeing contracts, service agreements, performance, and issue resolution. \n
- Oversee the Museum's networks, servers, cloud services, telecommunications, hardware, software, and related technology infrastructure. \n
- Ensure responsive technical support for Museum staff, including troubleshooting hardware, software, connectivity, and other technology issues. \n
- Administer Microsoft 365 and other institutional platforms, including user accounts, access permissions, collaboration tools, and device management. \n
- Lead cybersecurity efforts, including access controls, endpoint protection, staff awareness, incident response, and protection of sensitive institutional information. \n
- Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures to support reliable Museum operations. \n
- Develop and manage IT budgets, purchasing, software licensing, equipment inventories, and technology assets. \n
- Collaborate with Museum departments to support systems used for fundraising, membership, ticketing, finance, collections management, education, and visitor engagement. \n
- Lead technology projects, including system implementations, upgrades, migrations, and integrations, while coordinating timelines, budgets, vendors, and staff. \n
- Develop IT policies, documentation, and staff training, including guidance on the responsible use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. \n
- Provide technical assistance and coordination for audiovisual equipment, digital signage, exhibitions, public programs, and other visitor-facing technology. \n
The position works extensively with Museum leadership, departmental staff, and external technology providers to ensure that institutional technology remains secure, reliable, efficient, and responsive to organizational needs.
\n \nEducation and Experience
\nA bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible IT experience, including management of personnel, vendors, budgets, and technology projects.
\nExperience administering Microsoft 365, managing technology infrastructure, implementing cybersecurity practices, and supporting enterprise applications is required. Experience in a nonprofit, museum, cultural institution, or comparable organization is preferred.
\nRelevant professional certifications in Microsoft administration, networking, cybersecurity, IT service management, or project management are preferred. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
\n \nKnowledge and Skills
\nSuccessful candidates will bring:
\n- \n
- Strong knowledge of IT operations, network infrastructure, cloud services, servers, telecommunications, and desktop systems. \n
- Experience administering Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, identity and access management, and collaboration platforms. \n
- Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, data protection, backup systems, disaster recovery, and business continuity. \n
- Effective leadership skills and experience managing personnel, technology budgets, vendors, and projects. \n
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities. \n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a customer-service-oriented approach. \n
- The ability to manage competing priorities, respond to changing operational needs, and provide hands-on technical support when necessary. \n
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan, coordinate, and complete complex technology projects. \n
- The ability to collaborate with departmental system owners while respecting their operational responsibilities. \n
- Sound professional judgment and the ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of institutional information. \n
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools, their practical applications, and responsible organizational use. \n
- Experience with Blackbaud Altru or comparable ticketing, membership, and fundraising systems is beneficial. \n
- Familiarity with financial, marketing, collections management, and other nonprofit or museum technology platforms is beneficial. \n
Schedule and Work Environment
\nThis position combines office-based administrative and management responsibilities with hands-on technical support throughout the Museum campus. Work may occur in office, technical, gallery, and other indoor or outdoor environments.
