VDC ENGINEER

Description At Balfour Beatty Construction we are seeking an entry‑level Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Engineer in Southern California. The primary role is to facilitate the successful implementation of BIM, construction technology and related processes, and serve as a resource for business acquisition, proposal, preconstruction and operations phases. The VDC Engineer is an entry‑level position in the Construction Technology (ConTech) group, focused on producing models and providing technology‑related services and knowledge. This role ensures project success by using technology to execute processes for clients, designers (architectural and engineering firms) and subcontractors. Essential Functions Business Development / Acquisition Understand project requirements and pursuit needs. Create and develop models to generate images, videos and other BIM content for use in proposals and presentations. Assist in the development of the BIM Execution plan for new projects. Support the execution of Balfour Beatty's role in preconstruction workflows. Assist the integrated projects & preconstruction teams in using BIM tools for analysis. Review BIM models during design review in preconstruction. Utilize software skills to develop 2D/3D logistics plans for proposals. Operations Assist the project team to execute the BIM Execution Plan. Help the project team set up new project models for coordination and clash detection; facilitate clash detection sessions and BIM‑related meetings. Train and assist the project team on the use of BIM and its applications. Develop 3D virtual mockups and virtual reality sessions as needed. Support project teams with implementing all new technology. Build or further develop models for specific BIM processes at all project phases. Assist in laser scanning, processing and analyzing scan data and photogrammetry imaging. Innovation and Technology Support Proactively pursue personal development to remain proficient in the latest BIM technologies and programs. Assist with developing processes and SOPs for the implementation of new technology. Help develop training materials and train other employees on technology‑related processes. Maintain the BIM knowledge database, lessons learned, techniques and distribute knowledge. Observe the BIM process on current projects to capture new or improved methods. Maintain and expand Balfour Beatty BIM content and digital libraries. Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups to reflect company core values and exceed customer expectations. Participate actively in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image. Attend periodic meetings at off‑site locations and jobsites as required. Minimum Requirements B.S. in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architectural Engineering or related field. 2‑3 years of experience as a project engineer, estimator, VDC Engineer, or experience with BIM/technology programs from a project, school or industry. Well‑rounded basic knowledge of operations and business acquisition. Proficiency with personal computer functions (email, internet, Word, Excel, Office, Outlook, etc); familiarity with Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, Civil3D, CM Builder, Fusion, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and Primavera P6. Salary The base compensation range for the role is $80,000–$90,000 annually. This range is a guide and may be adjusted based on education, experience, skills, location, and performance. Compensation may include bonuses, incentives, or other forms of remuneration at the company's discretion.
