Job Title: Shipper and Receiver / Shipping Specialist

Job Description

The Shipping Specialist prepares and packages finished products for shipment, processes shipments in the ERP system, and coordinates carrier pickups to ensure accurate, safe, and timely delivery. This role focuses on verifying products and quantities, building and securing pallets and crates, minimizing packaging waste, and maintaining accurate shipping documentation and transactions.

Responsibilities

• Verify and sign off on packed items using order numbers, part numbers, descriptions, and quantities to ensure accuracy before shipment.
• Safely package smaller boxed items, maximizing product protection while reducing packaging material waste.
• Safely pack, secure, and protect boxed or unboxed items on pallets or in crates for outgoing shipments.
• Modify or construct custom pallets or crates from raw wood materials when required to protect products in transit.
• Process shipments in the ERP system and print all necessary shipping documents, including packing slips and bills of lading.
• Ensure all shipments are correctly labeled and picked up by the appropriate carrier.
• Confirm that all shipping transactions are accurate and complete to support correct inventory record keeping.
• Use best packaging practices with boxes, pallets, and crate building to prevent damage and achieve safe delivery.
• Operate material handling and shop equipment safely using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Contribute to achieving a 99.9% safe delivery rate by applying proper packaging and handling methods.
• Help prevent shipment errors by thoroughly verifying packing slips against order numbers, part numbers, descriptions, and quantities.
• Support accurate inventory control by completing shipping documentation and system entries with a high level of detail.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of warehouse or shipping experience.
• Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including loading, unloading, picking, and packing orders.
• Ability to accurately verify products and quantities against packing slips and order documentation.
• Basic proficiency with ERP or similar systems to process shipments and generate packing slips and bills of lading.
• Forklift experience (sit-down forklift) preferred, with the ability to operate safely once trained.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform general labor tasks in a warehouse/shop environment.
• Experience with palletizing, packaging, and protecting products for shipment.
• Attention to detail to maintain accurate shipping records and inventory transactions.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Some carpentry experience preferred, particularly in working with raw wood to build or modify pallets and crates.
• Experience operating material handling equipment such as overhead cranes and dock levelers (training provided).
• Ability to use power tools, including circular saws, panel saws, table saws, and impact drills, after appropriate training.
• Experience in production, order picking, and general warehouse labor is an asset.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities throughout the day.
• Commitment to minimizing packaging waste while maintaining high standards of product protection.

Work Environment

This role is based in a brand-new, climate-controlled shop and warehouse environment with a team of approximately 15 people. Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimal overtime expected while on contract. You will work around material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, dock levelers, and sit-down forklifts, and you will use power tools including circular saws, panel saws, table saws, and impact drills with appropriate personal protective equipment. The environment combines hands-on physical work—lifting up to 75 pounds, loading and unloading shipments, and building pallets or crates—with system-based tasks in the ERP to process shipments and documentation. The facility emphasizes safety, organization, and efficient material flow within a modern, comfortable setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wentzville, MO.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
