Intervention Specialist (Behavioral Interventionist)
Journeys Developmental Disability Agency (DDA) serves children in the Blackfoot area.
As a Behavioral Interventionist, you will play a crucial role in providing support, intervention, and assistance to children with intellectual/developmental disabilities. You will work closely with individuals, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to implement behavior plans, promote skill development, and enhance the overall quality of life for those you serve. Your compassionate nature, patience, and understanding will be essential in building positive relationships and creating a supportive environment for individuals with developmental disabilities.
General responsibilities include:
- Behavioral support: Implement behavior plans and strategies designed to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive behavioral change.
- Skill development: Assess individual needs and develop tailored programs to enhance social, cognitive, emotional, and physical skills.
- Data collection and analysis: Accurately document and maintain records of behavioral observations, interventions, progress, and outcomes.
- Collaboration and communication: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, psychologists, educators, and family members, to ensure coordinated care and consistent implementation of behavior plans.
- Crisis intervention: Effectively respond to crisis situations, such as aggressive or self-injurious behaviors, using approved de-escalation techniques.
- Training and education: Provide guidance and training to individuals, family members, and caregivers on behavior management techniques, strategies, and support interventions.
- Documentation and reporting: Prepare clear, concise, and timely reports on individual progress, goals, and behavior plans.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's level degree is required. A Bachelor's degree in fields such as: Social Work, Psychology, (Special) Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field is preferred; however, candidates with alternative Bachelor's level degrees may also be considered qualified if there has been an appropriate emphasis placed on Health & Human Services coursework following a review of credits achieved (as part of the candidate's transcript).
- Knowledge of behavior management principles applied behavior analysis (ABA), and positive behavior support (PBS) strategies
- Familiarity with assessment tools and data collection methods used in behavior analysis
- Minimum of 12 months of supervised experience with children who have developmental disabilities
- Clean criminal history background check
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with individuals, families, and a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, utilizing crisis intervention techniques when necessary
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required, depending on the job location and travel requirements
- Certified in CPR/First-Aid. **We can help you obtain this certification!**

- Percentage of individual goals achieved within a specified timeframe.
- Improvement in social, cognitive, emotional, and physical skills based on pre-defined assessment tools or standardized measurements.
- Increase in functional life skills, independence, and community integration.
- Feedback from individuals, families, and team members regarding skill development progress.
- Data collection and analysis
- Timeliness and accuracy of data collection and documentation.
- Consistency in data collection methods and adherence to data collection protocols.
- Effective analysis of behavioral data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for intervention adjustment.
- Utilization of data to make informed decisions and modifications to behavior plans.
- Collaboration and communication
- Feedback from multidisciplinary team members and stakeholders on the quality of collaboration and communication.
- Timeliness and effectiveness of communication with team members regarding progress, concerns, and strategies.
- Active participation in team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
- Crisis management and de-escalation
- Response time and effectiveness in managing crisis situations.
- Utilization of approved de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and others involved.
- Feedback from team members on crisis intervention skills and strategies.
- Training and education
- Feedback from individuals, families, and caregivers regarding the quality and usefulness of training provided.
- Assessment of knowledge transfer and implementation of behavior management techniques and strategies by stakeholders.
- Attendance and participation rates in training sessions or workshops.
