Founders and Tech Executive Tax Senior Manager (Whippany)

Job Overview

Withum’s Tax Services Group brings together tax specialists who ensure tax reporting obligations are met accurately and timely, and help clients develop economical tax strategies across international, U.S. federal, state, and local regulations.

Location

This role may be based in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, San Ramon, San Diego (California), New York City, New York, or Whippany, New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review of complex high‑net‑worth individual, fiduciary, gift, and estate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic planning.
• Conduct advanced tax research and draft technical memoranda addressing complex issues.
• Design and implement tax planning strategies that optimize wealth preservation, charitable giving, and succession planning for founders and tech executives.
• Serve as a trusted advisor, managing client relationships through proactive communication, strategic consultations, and responsive service.
• Mentor and supervise staff, fostering technical development, accountability, and a collaborative team culture.
• Collaborate with partners and senior leadership on client engagements, thought leadership, and business development initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with evolving federal, state, and local tax regulations, staying ahead of legislative changes and industry trends.
• Contribute to process improvement, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Engage in firm‑wide initiatives, including innovation projects, marketing efforts, and continuing education programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
• CPA, JD, LLM, or MST certification required.
• Minimum of 8+ years of professional services experience.
• Knowledge of the technology/startup and emerging growth sector is a plus.
• Demonstrated strategic leadership, defining market opportunities, and developing strategic plans and processes.
• Experience creating and deploying best‑of‑breed business development and relationship management practices.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to organize and lead meetings with senior executives.
• Strong leadership, project management, and multitasking abilities with excellent organization.
• Track record of managing time, meeting deadlines, and leading teams.
• Experience in formal sales process deployment, use, and training.
• Ability to be a resource across the firm, uphold an environment of accountability, and constructively monitor performance.
• Attention to detail, creative problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and outstanding relationship management skills.
• Solution‑oriented mindset.

Compensation & Benefits

• California: $135,000 – $230,000 base salary.
• New Jersey: $130,000 – $230,000 base salary.
• New York City: $150,000 – $225,000 base salary.
